Mike arriving home after a golf ball sized tumor had been removed from his frontal lobe last September

Mike’s Story…
It was September 2008, first week of Senior Year, when Mike felt flu like symptoms and a headache that wouldn't go away. That started on Wednesday and by Friday the headache got worse. A trip to the doctor on Friday morning and the problem was diagnosed as the flu.
Saturday morning Mike's younger brother Jack heard a thumping coming from the living room, found Mike having a seizure, and made the critical decisions to save his life, right there, right then. Mike was unresponsive and was rushed to Hoag Hospital ER where an MRI showed a large mass on his frontal lobe about the size of a golf ball. He was then taken to Children's Hospital of OC and two days later had the golf ball sized tumor removed.
It was stage 3 brain cancer. The family decided to look for alternative therapy since CHOC oncologists would only prescribe their "gold standard" treatment which meant six weeks of daily radiation and debilitating chemo drugs with a dismal “success rate”.
Mike has been successfully treated at the Burzynski Clinic in Houston. He continues to go to school (averaging 4.0), surf, and lead a relatively normal life while still fighting the recurrence of cancer.
The cost of Mike's treatment is upwards of $12,000 a month. He takes 47 pills a day (was 42 however the meds have been increased as of late due to “an area of Interest” spotted on his last MRI on April 2nd) and has weekly blood tests to track his health.
As you can imagine the out of pocket expense has put a huge strain on the family. That's why fundraising is an integral part of Mike's recovery and any financial help is greatly appreciated.
A special fund has been put in place for Mike.
